DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY
COURSE REGISTRATION GUIDELINES FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
(ENGLISH PROGRAM)
In accordance with the AYBU Academic Calendar, students must complete their course registrations between September 14–16, 2026. Necessary adjustments can be made during the Add-Drop period from September 26–29, 2026.
A total of 240 ECTS credits is required for graduation. Under normal conditions, an undergraduate degree spans 8 semesters; taking 30 ECTS per semester ensures a balanced distribution. Starting from the second year, this balance is typically maintained by selecting mandatory courses along with 1 or 2 departmental electives and 1 non-departmental elective. Students with an eligible GPA may take courses from upper semesters. Those wishing to take upper-level courses should coordinate closely with their academic advisors.
1ST-YEAR STUDENTS
All courses are mandatory during the first year (the first two academic semesters). Students must register for the mandatory courses listed in the student information system: SOC101, SOC103, SOC105, PHIL131, ECO151, PSY123, TİT 101, TDL 101, and ENG 103.
2ND-YEAR STUDENTS
Students must prioritize repeating failed or uncompleted courses from previous semesters (if any). The courses SOC201, SOC203, SOC205, and SOC207 are mandatory for 2nd-year students. Students must also take SOC 209 as an elective course. To fulfill non-departmental elective requirements, students must select course(s) from other English-medium departments within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or from the Rectorate common elective courses.
Important Notes:
• TİT 101, TDL 101, and ENG 10e courses will be conducted via AYBUZEM.
• If schedule conflicts occur due to repeated courses, minor programs, or similar reasons, attendance responsibility rests entirely with the student.
• Attendance is not mandatory for repeated courses if the student did not fail due to absenteeism previously. However, students retaking a course to improve their grades are subject to mandatory attendance.
• Students may contact their academic advisors via email when necessary. Advisor email addresses are available on the department website.
