It is not possible to make a single definition of mathematics, a product of human intelligence and one of the oldest sciences in human history. Mathematics, which is the science of numbers and figures in its earliest definition, can be defined as an inductive and effective universal language which provides the final result by combining basic ideas.
Graduates of the Department of Mathematics receive the title of mathematician and develop scientific research on various mathematical topics and apply mathematical theories such as probability, hypothesis testing, variance and scientific studies, engineering projects, military planning, electronic data processing and administrative decision making, and research, apply mathematical principles and techniques in the solution of certain problems in development, production, logistics and other functional areas, examine the computer systems and carry out studies in order to carry out the operations in a regular and healthy way.
The Department of Mathematics was established in 2014 and started its operations in the Ovacık Campus. As of the 2018-2019 academic year, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences has started to offer education in undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Mathematics. The language of education is 100% English, and conducts education and academic studies in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences located at the 15 Temmuz Building of the Etlik West Campus.
Mission
In line with the requirements of our age, our Mathematics Department aims to assimilate mathematical thinking with its core courses and offers a current undergraduate program with various elective courses that contribute to post-graduate career plans. The fact that the language of instruction is English enables our students to follow and participate in international studies. Foreign language education will also allow international students to be admitted to the department and exchange students within the framework of exchange programs. Our department aims to grow in the main branches of mathematics and to train valuable scientists who are experts in their fields.
Vision
As a mathematics department, our vision is to create a solid foundation that allows our students to understand and use the language of mathematics that has penetrated all areas of life. To this end, our department applies the principles of good teaching, a complete and up-to-date curriculum and accurate grading and evaluation principles with the principle of en providing the highest quality mathematics education for every student ’. Thus, in our country, our basic opinion is to increase the number of competent, innovative, dynamic and productive individuals who can work in a competent, interdisciplinary manner.
