Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Rector Prof. Dr. In his speech, Ali Cengiz Köseoğlu stated, “We have gathered today to deepen our knowledge of health literacy, advance this field, and develop concrete and effective interventions. Health literacy encompasses the cognitive and social skills necessary for individuals to access, understand, and use health-related information in their health-related decisions. Therefore, health literacy plays a crucial role in the processes of health protection and promotion. As individuals' ability to understand and apply health information increases, their control over their own health increases, increasing their likelihood of leading a healthier life. Studies conducted in recent years have clearly demonstrated the profound impact of health literacy on public health. However, despite the progress we have made in this area, the level of public health literacy is still not at the desired level. Therefore, it has become imperative to develop proactive and innovative interventions to improve public health literacy. Based on this, this symposium aims to analyze our current state of health literacy and, at the same time, to develop and implement evidence-based, effective, and sustainable intervention strategies to improve health literacy.”
Köseoğlu emphasized that contributing to society is an important duty of universities and thanked the participants.
